This year’s Global Technology Summit (Dec 14-16) considers the changing nature of technology, and how prepared we are for emerging realities. Let’s see what has happened so far. Held in collaboration with Carnegie India and the Govt. of India, the summit has been bringing together industry experts, global policymakers & scholars for the last 6 years.
Speaking on air at the opening event, the UK Prime Minister described India and the UK as natural partners. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar spoke of new alliances like the Quad and how, to become part of the global supply chains, India needed to first strengthen its own domestic supply chain networks.
The potential of 1.2 billion people was not missed. Experts spoke of how UPI payments, since its launch in India five years ago, have grown at an annual rate of about 200% in India, easing transactions for the majority.
Among the panel discussions, Arundhati Bhattacharya, (CEO of Salesforce) along with the head of TeamLease Services Limited was to talk about data security and the possible roadblocks. The Indian government, which launched the Digital India programme in 2015, is now planning to leverage growing opportunities in manufacturing, engineering, and digitalization. However, it faces a few challenges such as delays in development of infrastructure, rural connectivity, digital literacy, and data security.
For businesses transitioning to cloud, robust security is imperative to protect data from theft, leakage, or corruption. One session was aimed at discussing ways to maximize the cybersecurity benefits provided by cloud service providers and minimize the cybersecurity risks.
Businesses are slowly transitioning to the cloud with an objective to enhance efficiency, innovate responsibly, and reduce the carbon footprint of their operations. Ken Haig from Amazon Web Services explored the financial and environmental benefits of the cloud.
A panel discussion by SAP addressed policies and investments that companies were investing in, such as innovative cloud solutions to ensure building a sustainable and inclusive future. Similarly, Mani Kishore from Banyan Nation talked about technologies that companies could leverage to focus more on the adoption and promotion of green tech for sustainable and inclusive development.
To meet the ever-increasing demands of an online shopper, advanced technological practices are being implemented at every point of the supply chain. One session was dedicated to exploring how online and offline retail models were merging on the back of technology, and driving digitization for millions of businesses.
